How To Be A Foodie Without Gaining Weight

Health nut? Why yes I am. Experimental foodie that won’t think twice about diving into a cheese plate with a glass of vino? Yup, that’s me too. You will often find my hubby and I planning our next restaurant outing, ogling over a menu of truffled dishes, lobster risotto or caramelized onion and prosciutto pizza.

So how do I balance this Jekyll and Hyde relationship with food without expanding my pant size? Steaming kale one moment and appreciating the delights of Haagen Dazs Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream the next? You won’t find me crash dieting or going on week long food bender’s, instead a daily balance of nutrient dense whole foods while savoring moments of truly delectable culinary creations. Being a foodie while still being able to fit into your favorite jeans isn’t impossible. Here for 4 simple tips on how to have your gorgonzola blue cheese and eat it too.

1) Eat Adventurously

If prescribed diets make you want to rebel or you quickly grow tired of steamed chicken and broccoli when you’re trying to slim down, go on a food adventure. Visit an international grocery store or farmers market and find a fruit or vegetable you’ve never tried and add it to dinner. Feel intimidated? Cook it along side something you feel totally confident in preparing.

2) Hunt and Gather

Eat healthy foods you already love but change how you get them. Instead of taking a trip to the grocery store, get closer to the source. Reconnect with your food by hunting and gathering. Visit an orchard and pick your own apples. Gather some buddies and go fishing for a day. There are fewer things more satisfying than literally enjoying the fruits of your labor.

3) Love the Ones You’re With

Beautiful experiences are meant to be shared, like toasting a glass of Malbec over a plate of Marcona almonds and oil cured olives. When you do indulgence in delicious foodie finds, share the love. Truly savoring the taste, smells and experience is more satisfying when you share the foodie wealth.

4) Balance your Foodie Indulgence with Nutrient Dense Foods

No need to crash diet after a weekend food festival. While enjoying your delicious eats, add an extra vegetable or two to the mix. And don’t skip dinner after a boozy pancake brunch. Drink some lemon water and eat a nutrient dense dinner with lean protein, fiber and vegetables.

Now go forth with loving food and your health!
